Two Shopping Trips with Extra Savings
With a few extra Albertson's Twice the Value coupons this week, I was able to get everything you see in this picture for just $4.45! Part of the success of this shopping trip was earning bonus points through Albertson's new preferred rewards card. My points earned me an extra $5.00 off coupon. Planning my transactions was key to accumulating my points on free items first, then using my coupon to reduce my out of pocket expense on additional items. The total retail cost was $71.83 and I saved $67.38! While saving 94% is not the norm for all my shopping trips, when the opportunity comes along I enjoy taking advantage of the extra savings. Organization and planning is the key to this success.
My second successful trip was to Fred Meyer. While organization and planning was important here as well, a little fast thinking was also necessary. Campbell's soup was on sale for $.99, but if you bought 10, they were $.49 each. I saw this as a great stockpile item since I also had coupons for extra savings. Based on the amount of coupons I had, I decided to purchase 48 cans. When the total of my transaction was displayed, I realized it was more than what I calculated. I stopped to look through the transaction and realized that 8 of the cans did not scan with the additional discount when you buy 10. A little fast thinking lead me to the "must buy 10" phrase of the sale which really meant "must buy 10, in multiples of 10". I quickly retrieved 2 more cans to make an even 50 which then corrected my total. Taking the time to plan and calculate the final total of this transaction helped me realize when there was a mistake. Always remember to watch your items and coupons as they are scanned to make sure the correct amount is charged and each coupon is counted. If you have a general idea what your final total should be, you can catch errors that cost you money.
