Helping Our Community

Pictured above are the donations collected at our recent Toiletry Drive.  All these items will be donated to Yelm Community Services.  Thank you to all those who helped make this possible.  It is an overwhelming feeling of joy to know that The Savvy Simple Savers is doing our part to help families in our community.  If you were unable to donate this time, I encourage you to read some of these suggestions and tips for donating in the future.

Why you should donate:
  1. It feels good to give to others and support families in your community.
  2. A good way to clean out and rate your stockpile.
  3. A great opportunity to teach your kids about giving.
  4. If you get a receipt, you will have a tax deduction.
Where to donate:
  1. Yelm Community Services
  2. Savvy Simple Savers - You are always welcome to bring donations to our meetings and we will deliver them to a charity in need.
  3. Ask around your community for other charities.
  4. Emergency/Natural Disaster - Watch for opportunities in your neighborhood, town or even around the world where supplies are needed after an emergency or disaster.
What should you donate:
  1. Find out what the charity you are donating to needs.
  2. Yelm Community Services accepts food for the Food Bank, items to sell in the Thrift Shop (proceeds support the Food Bank) and items for those in need of the Emergency Shelter.
Additional Tips to consider:
  • When you find a free or cheap item while shopping, pick up one extra to donate.
  • Keep a bag/box for donations.  If you get something for cheap or free you can easily set it aside to donate.
  • Free samples you receive in the mail make great donations.
  • Plan how often you will donate (monthly, quarterly).  Mark it on your calendar.
