Get Real!
I have enjoyed sharing many successful shopping trips throughout the month including details about free items, retail value, out of pocket cost and percentage saved. While many of these trips are impressive and show a high percentage of savings, this is not the case for every shopping trip. Let's face it, reading about savings of 70-90% is much more exciting than 50% or less.
As March comes to an end, I want to share the reality of our monthly savings. I feel it is only fair to show you our total savings for an entire month of shopping. My family saved a total of 60% on our total grocery, household and health & beauty purchases. On top of that, we cut an extra $60 out of our set budget. Adding this to our savings, brings our total savings to 65%. This is a realistic goal that can be achieved. I credit our savings to the system I have set up and the following strategies:
Be consistent: After you set up a system that works for you, being consistent is very important. Saving money will just become part of your life routine and make it easier for you to continue.
Learn new things: Challenge yourself to new opportunities and adventures. Try shopping at a different store or learn more tips and tricks about using coupons. Don't be afraid to ask questions. You might learn something that will save your family more money!
Be realistic: Some shopping trips will be more successful than others. It is important to focus on the big picture. Keeping track of your spending and savings will help you know how much you can expect to save and still meet your family's needs.
